The House Boy is required to serve naked at home but is loaned clothing or covering sufficient to meet dress codes when traveling with the Master where nudity is not legal or traditional. The boy is not permitted to wear underwear (except in special circumstances) so he will usually be wearing pants or shorts with nothing on underneath.

On rare occasions, the Master will drop off the boy at a friend’s home or a public place like a park or mall while the Master tends to a quick errand or other tasks. When the drop-off place is at a private residence – like a friend’s home – the boy may be restricted to only wearing white underwear during the layover. A pair of white underwear is kept in each of the Master’s cars for situations like these. Arrangements like these are made as a compromise to a host who isn’t comfortable with full nudity but *is* kind enough to allow the Master to require the House Boy to wait without pants or shirt. Footwear and a hat would be at the option of the Master and the host.

In the example photo, the House Boy accompanies the Master into town to have lunch and pick up some dry cleaning, when the Master is told that the dry cleaning won’t be ready until after 3 PM. With an extra couple of hours to fill, the Master offers to drop off the boy at a friend’s home while the Master visits with a colleague to discuss a pending real estate deal. The boy quickly accepts and knows that it is a privilege to spend time visiting his friend, but the trade-off is that the Master and the host have agreed to require the boy to strip to his underwear for the short visit since the friend has a roommate who ‘would be uncomfortable with full nudity’. The boy is directed to the back porch to quickly change into his skivvies, and the Master drives away – with the boy’s shirt and pants – after thanking the host for his hospitality. Only after the Master is gone does the boy learn that his friend’s roommate has a tighty-whitey fetish, and our boy is seen scratching his head, wondering if staying with the Master for the boring meeting might have been the better decision.
