Master’s Philosophy – Dealing With Intentional Over-Cooperation
The Naked House Boy is required to use good judgment in obeying the Master’s commands, and will not be disciplined for using *reasonable* judgment to try to obey a command that is given in jest, like ‘Go Fly a Kite’ (See below, Interpretation #24). On the other hand, the boy is subject to punishment for using *unreasonable* judgment if he tries to obey a similar command given in jest, like ‘Blow Horns Out Of Your Ass’ (See below, Interpretation #23).
When the Master’s command is *not* given in jest but the Naked House Boy tries to make his own joke out of the command by *technically* obeying it, this is called ‘Over Cooperation’. Circumstances like these can be frustrating to the Master because the boy is not violating any rule or command, yet his behavior serves to mock or taunt, which is an implied challenge of authority.
In the example photo, the Naked House Boy asks permission to sunbathe himself during thirty minutes of free time before guests arrive, and the Master has met his request part way, granting the boy permission to ‘only sunbathe one side today’. The boy probably knows that the Master intends for the boy to sunbathe either his front or backside, yet the boy chooses to lay down so the shadow of the sun falls over the roofline and shades his body only on the *left* side, but not on his right. Technically the boy is obeying the command, even though his actions serve to mock or taunt the Master.
It shall be the policy of this Master *not* to discipline a House Boy who over-cooperates or ‘technically’ obeys a command or protocol. Instead, the Master will use the circumstance as a learning opportunity and attempt to find another rule or protocol that the boy has ‘technically’ violated or 'under-performed’, and to respond to *that* circumstance instead. In the example pictured, the Master would react by waiting until the boy finishes sunbathing and then call the boy into the living room in front of the guests for Inspection, where the boy’s backside or the bottom of his feet are discovered to be grassy or soiled. As a non-punishment resolution, the boy is assigned a cold water Dousing by the Master or a guest volunteer (See below, Rule #137).
House Boys who are clever enough to 'technically’ obey and are also careful enough to avoid violating any other rule or protocol will be congratulated and allowed to skip one or more chores of the Master’s choice as a reward for paying attention to detail. Guests tend to find interactions like these mildly entertaining, especially since the Naked House Boy loses more often than he wins. A boy who has earned the right to skip a chore may use that time however he pleases – including full use of equipment like the pool, game machines, jacuzzi, or even time alone or with friends on or off the property – providing he remains naked during this time and reports back to the Master when instructed to do so.
