The Naked House Boy is required to maintain situational awareness and comply with the Master’s written instructions. This includes things like shopping lists, things-to-do written on a whiteboard, post-it notes which may be left in common locations, and other forms of written instructions that are subtlety placed for the boy’s eye to see at specific times and circumstances of the Master’s choosing. Failure to observe a note placed on the trash can, for example, when taking out the trash will subject the boy to discipline for poor situational awareness. Even more serious is the circumstance where a boy sees an instruction but chooses to not act on the command, which may be punished as disrespect or insubordination.

In the example photo, the Master arrives home and is relaxing with his feet propped up in the study, knowing that the boy is scheduled to be dusting in the study shortly. The House Boy enters and attentively observes the Master’s instructive footwear and complies – pouring and delivering a glass of the Master’s favorite wine – a local favorite from a nearby vineyard. On this occasion, the House Boy will receive praise and will be invited to chauffeur the Master and friends to a tour of the winery the following weekend. The dress code for the boy, of course, will depend on whether the tour is the standard public walk-through and tasting, or is a ‘Special Affair’ (with a 'Special Dress Code’) put on just for the Master and some 'V-I-Ps’. The 'related rules’ below are just a few that the boy should 'bare’ in mind.
