This photo shows one example of a Level Two spanking. Spanking at this level is unrestrained but requires the use of an implement, such as a belt. The boy is always naked for this discipline, though footwear need not be removed at the Master’s discretion. A punishment that is not deferred will take place, regardless of who may be present and could observe, since the boy has no right to physical privacy at any time. When a belt has been assigned at the implement for any Level Two punishment, the boy will secure himself against a piece of furniture, and the Master may place a towel or padding to minimize scratching or chafing. (Level Three punishments require restraints: the boy’s hands would be tied or cuffed if disciplined as shown).

Responsible and obedient House Boys should never receive punishment by belt, and many boys have served here without receiving so much as a single swat for misbehavior. These are the compliant and obedient boys with a need to please, and the Master values them highly. But House Boys who lack self-control or suffer from inner brattiness will become familiar with this type of discipline. The boy’s actions determine whether punishment by the belt is merely a page in the rule book for guests to laugh about or a reality for them to observe.
