Each full-time House Boy is evaluated prior to collaring for several characteristics. One of these is the appropriateness of body hair. The evaluation takes into account the boy’s body measurements and overall look, the color and thickness of his body hair, his preference for keeping or shaving pubic and body hair, and the Master’s impressions about whether house guests would prefer to see the boy with smooth or hairy buttocks.

Few house boys have been determined to need buttocks shaving or smoothing, but for those who do, the shaving of his buttocks is a scheduled activity, and like any other duty or chore it happens at an assigned time, regardless of who may be present and could observe. Buttocks shaving is always done by the Master or a volunteer unless a paid groomer is brought in. Part-time and temporary House Boys are exempt from shaving requirements if they so request.

Due to the sensitive nature of the buttocks, shaving will only take place under the Master’s supervision. Shaving of the House Boy’s anus is covered under a separate rule (See below, Rule #56).
