Each full-time House Boy is evaluated prior to collaring for several characteristics. One of these is the appropriateness of pubic hair. The evaluation takes into account the boy’s body measurements and overall look, the color and thickness of his body and public hair, his preference for keeping or shaving pubic and body hair, and the Master’s impressions about whether house guests would prefer to see the boy with pubic hair or with a hairless penis and testicles. The Master may also choose that the boy keeps his pubic area carefully trimmed, or just his scrotum smooth.

Shaving and smoothing of the House Boy’s genitals is a scheduled activity, and like any other duty or chore, it happens at an assigned time, regardless of who may be present and could observe. Part-time and temporary House Boys who have body and pubic hair at their pre-collaring inspection are exempt from shaving requirements, though they may waive that right and submit to shaving instead.

The Master appreciates offers from visitors to help House Boys with his scheduled duties and chores, and these requests are granted whenever practical. Due to the sensitive nature of the genital area, shaving will only take place under the Master’s supervision.
