The Master’s House Boy is required to go about his duties and chores naked at home, regardless of who may be present and could observe. He has no right to privacy and isn’t even allowed to close bathroom doors without special permission. The boy’s bedroom does not have a door, and the boy is required to sleep naked without covers after a six-month adjustment period (See below, Rule #131). He is also required to keep his genitals (or his buttocks or anus) ‘substantially visible’ at all times.

In order to comply with the rules, it is important that the House Boy be aware of not only his physical positioning but also the prevailing lighting in his room. In the example above, the House Boy is playing a video game on his bed during his recreational time, while laying somewhat on his side facing the screen. Because his genitals would be hidden from anyone entering the room, the boy has bent his legs at the hips to allow for better visibility of his buttocks, yet it’s difficult for the boy to determine whether enough of his buttocks are visible to prevent a violation and punishment. As added insurance against the possibility of discipline, the boy has taken the extra step of moving his left knee forward to allow his legs to separate and expose his anus, ensuring compliance with the rule.

Despite the House Boy’s attention to detail, it is still possible for this boy to be in violation and earn a spanking for misbehavior. Since he is in his own bedroom, it is the boy’s responsibility to maintain sufficient interior lighting to allow his anus to be seen. When you look closely at the photograph, you can see that the video screen by itself does not provide enough lighting to illuminate his buttocks and anus, but he has turned on another light to the right of the picture that keeps his skin lighted and visible. The boy is permitted to use light from outside his doorway to meet the requirement that his body parts be seen, but the boy also assumes the risk of punishment if the exterior light is turned off and the boy fails to notice or respond before the Master views the violation.
