The Master has the right to upgrade or modify indoor or outdoor lighting for any reason at any time, including to improve the observation and supervision of the House Boy as he goes about his duties and chores. The House Boy has no right to object to or resist any change which reduces his physical privacy or eases supervision of his behavior and activities. The Master may install mirrors of any type or style, including conventional or one-way, concave or convex, and the House Boy is responsible for maintaining all mirrors in a clean and presentable condition.

In the example photo, the House Boy — who happens to also be a university student — works on a class project in his assigned study area. An overhead spotlight is sufficient for studying, but the Master has recently installed indirect strip-lighting behind and underneath the desk to create a brighter view. This allows the Master and others to better supervise the House Boy from the hallway or entryway, and ensure that the House Boy is actually studying and not allowing his hands to fiddle with things below the desktop where they shouldn’t be. The addition of a full-length mirror along the far wall comes as a suggestion from house guests and provides a reflective view for more thorough House Boy supervision.
