Weather Check is a multi-step yet quick process that a House Boy is required to obey on demand to discover and notify Master what the current weather “feels like”, so that Master can make informed decisions regarding outdoor activities and travel, and requires the House Boy to step outside and use the five senses of sight, sound, touch, smell, and taste and then intelligently compile the information “felt or sensed” into a few short sentences to report back to Master after returning indoors.

The Naked House Boy is responsible for a variety of duties and chores. Some are scheduled daily or weekly, while others are carried out ‘on demand’ at the time of Master’s instruction. Weather Check is an ‘on demand’ task that usually takes place at home in the morning hours but may be tasked at any time or location depending on circumstances.

Weather Check is a multi-step yet quick process that a House Boy is required to obey to discover and notify the Master what the current outdoor weather “feels like" so that the Master can make informed decisions regarding outdoor activities and travel. These decisions may include choices about clothing selection, travel routes when driving, and activity planning. Responsibility for using good judgment and following Weather Check protocol lies entirely with the House Boy since the Master is often preoccupied with other priorities and may be unable to supervise the House Boy while the Weather Check is in progress.

Protocol for a Weather Check requires the House Boy to use each of his five senses to evaluate the prevailing weather conditions. Before he begins, the House Boy must use his sense of sight to look out the window or doorway to make sure it is safe to exit and continue. (If there is a hurricane, for example, the House Boy would not proceed, since he is never required to do anything unsafe or illegal under the Paramount Rule). Once he has determined it is safe to continue, the House Boy will decide to step outside and perform the Weather Check using each of his five senses:

• Sight — The House Boy will visually observe the weather both at ground level and skyward, looking for clouds, fog, objects blowing in the wind, and any other visual clue about the current or future weather.
   
• Sound - The House Boy will listen for weather-related sounds like thunder, wind, or rushing water and also man-made noises like whirley-bird sprinklers or heavy machinery which may exhaust pollution. He will also listen for anything else that could impact clothing or travel decisions and will attempt to determine the direction that sounds originate from or traveling towards.
   
• Touch — The House Boy will remain still, closing his eyes and feeling the air against his naked skin. Is it wet, hot, dry, chilly, crisp, damp, or muggy? Is it warm enough to make his testicles hang low, or cold enough that his nipples stand erect and his scrotum rides high and tight? The House Boy uses his sense of touch to help describe to Master in detail how the weather ‘feels’ outside when in contact with human skin or clothing.
   
• Smell - The House Boy should take several deep breaths, inhaling once through his nose and again with his mouth open, repeating as necessary. Does the air smell of smog, smoke, or other pollutants? Is there a salty ocean taste implying an onshore airflow, or the dangerous odor of natural gas or propane? He should report these findings to Master.
   
• Taste — The sense of taste should not be forgotten. The House Boy should open his mouth sufficiently to determine if there is ‘anything in the air’. A salty taste against his tongue or lips could mean that there is an onshore airflow, and a dry grit may mean light sandy content and a dryer day. If a taste can be described, he will report the taste in detail to Master.

While the Weather Check may sound like a complicated process, it’s quite simple and usually takes just a minute or two to complete. Experienced House Boys learn how to step through the five senses quickly, and intelligently compile the information into a few short sentences to report to Master once indoors.

In the example photo, a House Boy has been instructed to do a Weather Check on a cool winter morning following an overnight storm. Master gives the order as he begins to shave, expecting a report by the time he finishes shaving and begins to dress for the day. The House Boy steps outside and uses his five senses to gather data, and then reports back to Master saying, “There's a couple of inches of snow on the ground Sir, but none is falling at this time. The air is crisp and chilly, but not enough that it bites my skin, even though my scrotum is tight. There’s no wind, and the sun is even beginning to peek out of the clouds. The outdoor thermometer says 42 degrees and it seems to be warming up and clearing.” Master then looks towards the boy and smiles, pleased at what he hears and sees.

Weather Checks are always carried out with the House Boy naked or clothed, as he happens to be at the moment the command is given, though footwear and headgear are always optional. This means that the House Boy will usually be naked when carrying out the command at home. When traveling with Master to hotels and other locations, the House Boy may or may not be clothed when the command is given, and Master does not give thought or consideration to what a House Boy happens to be wearing or not wearing, or what the outdoor dress code happens to be where the command is given. A House Boy who is instructed to do a Weather Check while away from home must properly evaluate outdoor dress codes before exiting, and is permitted to install any single item of Minimal Clothing (Rule #111) without risk of punishment only when it would be against dress codes or unsafe to proceed while naked and must remove the extra garment upon returning indoors and before reporting the Weather Check verbally.

A House Boy who completes a Weather Check while naked away from home is not subject to discipline for failing to install Minimal Clothing even though it would have been permitted, though he is solely responsible for any other consequences of his choice to proceed undressed. A House Boy who carries out a Weather Check in obviously hazardous conditions, like a Tropical Storm or Hurricane, is subject to discipline up to a Level Three Insubordination for the dangerous safety violation.
