House Boys who serve on a long-term or permanent basis may be provided a gym or health club membership after their probationary period. This allows the boy to maintain fitness goals and to have a place to go during his recreational (free) time. While the House Boy is provided clothing for transportation and use at the gym, he is also required to follow protocol when changing clothes (See below, Related Rules), even in the locker and changing rooms.

All changes of clothing in a locker or changing room – including the addition or removal of as little as a single item of clothing – require the boy to undress to full nudity and then get dressed again (either immediately or after a shower or other water time). The boy is not permitted to directly remove or add clothing without stripping to full nudity at least briefly. The use of a towel or any other object to cover or conceal his genitals or buttocks is a serious violation. The wearing of footwear or jewelry while naked is not a violation.

This rule is intended to remind the House Boy that he has no right to privacy in any location where nudity is legal or traditional. Locker and changing rooms are – by definition – places where nudity is traditional, and the Master will not pay to join fitness centers or other businesses which have changing rooms where the boy is not permitted to change properly. The changing of clothing – including the time which the boy is naked – is a routine activity, and the boy is also prohibited from doing anything out of the ordinary to draw attention to himself. He may continue conversations or respond to questions from others, but should wait to begin new conversations until he is no longer completely undressed, unless some outside activity makes commentary reasonable (like a touchdown on the overhead television).

In the example photo, the House Boy happens to be alone in the changing room but he carefully follows the undressing protocol, knowing that the Master has friends who come here and could walk in and report the boy for discipline later. While the Master will not spank the boy at the fitness center even when the Master personally observes a violation, the punishment decision may be announced verbally, regardless of who may be present and could overhear. Showering and the use of facilities like the jacuzzi, weight room, and other areas are covered by different rules.
