Food and Beverages – Accommodation for Dietary Restrictions
The Naked House Boy does not have any right to require the Master or any guest to abide by dietary restrictions that the boy has, except when a serious allergic reaction may result. The Master will attempt to keep the home and the boy’s life free from any foods or ingredients that clearly jeopardize the boy’s health, based on medical recommendations. House Boys with a religious or personal objection to certain foods or beverages or who wish to have restricted diets – such as vegetarian or vegan – will be accommodated as long as the Master was informed and agreed to the dietary wishes prior to collaring. The Master is under no obligation to limit himself or guests to any restricted diet unless the boy’s health would be in danger (example: peanut allergies). The House Boy may still be required to prepare and serve foods or beverages that he does not wish to consume, as long as preparation and serving can be done safely. The Master will accommodate dietary restrictions that pose health hazards even if they are diagnosed after the collaring of the boy.
In the example photo, a vegetarian House Boy is preparing a meal for himself and vegetarian guests during one of the Master’s summer steak barbeques.
