Dousing is a response to a circumstance, not a punishment. Dousing may be ordered due to the discovery or suspicion of a dirty or bug-infested slave, or concerns about rashes, skin conditions, or similar situations. Dousing materials may thusly be anything from clear water to medicines to home remedies, including combinations of safe household products like hydrogen peroxide, tonic water, tomato juice (good for contact with skunks), etc. Follow-up may involve the application of Neosporin or other over-the-counter applications.

Dousing may be conducted by the Master or a volunteer who will be permitted to cover himself or herself as necessary to prevent contamination. When the Master is not immediately present, however briefly, any person has the right to order and conduct a dousing without delay. Because this is a response to a circumstance and not a punishment, the boy has no reason to be embarrassed by this procedure. Punishment for delay or obstruction of a Dousing Command shall be a Level One punishment to be administered by the person issuing the order to douse. If the punishment is carried out by anyone other than the Master, an additional Level One punishment will be administered by the Master as soon as practical.
