One day each week is set aside as Laundry Day in Master’s Home. The House Boy is responsible for wash, dry and fold (or hanging) all laundry. Baskets for dirty clothes and towels are placed throughout the home, and the boy must also strip the bedsheets and pillowcases for laundering.

Laundry Day is a weekly scheduled activity and takes place regardless of who may be present and could observe. The boy is naked during this duty, since he has no right to privacy, though footwear is optional. Activities and chores for this day are arranged so that the boy can complete all his duties between the time he begins stripping the beds in the morning and when he completes putting away the clean clothes after the final load dries in the early afternoon, so he will still have recreational time unless he has misbehaved or Master has evening plans.

When guests are present, the boy should ask if they have anything that they would like laundered. It’s also not unusual for the Master’s college-aged nephew to bring over clothing to be washed. It is the responsibility of the House Boy to check all pockets and clothing tags for forgotten items and washing instructions, to avoid damage to equipment or textiles. Bedding must be replaced in the sleeping areas before laundry is considered completed.

Laundry Day may be canceled or the day or times changed if it conflicts with travel plans or guest arrivals where Master prefers a quiet home. Special rules cover laundry when washed and dried off property, such as at a laundromat when traveling or when the Master’s washer or dryer is not working.

As with any of the House Boy’s duties or chores, guests are welcome to volunteer to assist the boy in washing, drying, or folding. Master appreciates these offers of assistance. The boy is permitted to ask for help only with the folding of bedding, clarity on an item’s washing instructions, or issues with the washing equipment.

Negligent damage to items being laundered is subject to Level Two discipline. Negligent damage to laundry equipment is a Level Three Violation. Other minor violations of Laundry Day protocol are punishable by a warning, otherwise at Level One if significant. Since the House Boy lives naked and uncovered, there is not a lot of laundry to do at times. Laundry Day is sometimes canceled and may be replaced by another assignment like washing cars for Master’s friends, cleaning the carpeting, or giving massages.
