Each full-time House Boy is evaluated prior to collaring for several characteristics. One of these is the appropriateness of body hair. The evaluation takes into account the boy’s body measurements and the overall look, the color and thickness of his body and public hair, his preference for keeping or shaving pubic and body hair, and the Master’s impressions about whether house guests would prefer to see the boy hairless or with body hair, or perhaps only with hair trimmed or in specific areas.

Every permanent full-time House Boy who is required to have his public area shaved or smoothed will also be subject to underarm shaving unless exempted for disability. This is a scheduled activity and will take place at the assigned time, regardless of who may be present and could observe. Like all duties and chores, the House Boy must be naked for this activity, though footwear is optional. Ticklishness is not considered a disability that would exempt underarm shaving.

House Boys who are permitted to keep all body hair will be exempt from underarm shaving. Part-time and temporary House Boys are exempt from all shaving requirements, on request. The Master appreciates offers from visitors to help the boy with shaving and his other duties and chores, and these requests are granted whenever practical.
