The Naked House Boy can be required to take music lessons at Master’s option (See ‘Education & Culture: Music Lessons’). The boy does have the option to choose a creative alternative like painting or singing lessons. While Master values music and culture in his life, there are times when the sight or sound of a boy singing or playing with his instrument can be distracting to Master or guests. For this reason, the boy may be required to practice outdoors when weather conditions are favorable, and he is not permitted to wear any clothing except footwear or a hat or cap.

Music practice is a scheduled activity and takes place at the assigned time, regardless of who may be present and could observe. When directed to practice in the back yard or pool area, the boy must be aware and ensure that he does not interfere with guests who may be using the pool or enjoying other outdoor activities. Music practice may be canceled or rescheduled at the Master’s discretion, and the boy is permitted to ask for postponement or rescheduling with good reason.

Tardiness in beginning a practice session without good reason is a three-swat Level One Spanking to be administered immediately, regardless of who may be present and could observe. This offense does not require corner time, and the boy should commence his practice immediately to avoid another punishment. A practice completely missed without good reason is a Level Two violation.
