This photo shows one example of a House Boy who has been restrained and is awaiting a Level Three Spanking. Spanking at this level is always restrained and usually takes place in the Disciplinary Area. The misbehaving boy is always naked for punishment at home, though footwear need not be removed at the Master’s discretion. Level Three Spankings are reserved for the most serious is violations, and even then a lighter form of restraint is usually used. Currently, Master does not even own a stockade, but the rule is included to emphasize to House Boys that Master could always build or buy one. 

Responsible and obedient House Boys should never receive a serious punishment like this one, and many boys have served here without receiving so much as a single bare hand Level One swat for misbehavior. These are the compliant and obedient boys with a need to please, and Master values them highly. But House Boys who lack self-control or suffer from inner brattiness will become familiar with the discipline, and repeat or serious offenses will bring serious discipline. The boy’s actions determine whether punishment is merely a page in the rule book for guests to laugh about or a reality for them to observe.

Master does recall traveling with a boy and a friend and visiting a remote historical site that did have an old stockade. The boy was very well behaved that day, and Master was disappointed that the other guest did not ask for a demonstration of how the stockade would have been used. Had the guest done so, Master could have ordered the boy to assume the discipline position, so that a single swat could be administered as a demonstration of the effectiveness of the wooden restraint. It’s important that a boy cooperates with such a demonstration so that he doesn’t disrespect Master’s friend and earn an actual Level Three Spanking in the historical stockade. 

The threat of serious punishments like this one serves as an effective deterrent to misbehavior. Master doesn’t actually have to own a stockade to use it as a deterrent, as long as the boy believes that Master might just know where a real one is located.
