The House Boy is required to keep himself clean and presentable at all times, and part of this process is showering at assigned times. When the boy is assigned to shower and a handheld spray is available, the boy may use it as either a fixed shower head, or he may remove the hose and sprayer and use it handheld to rinse himself. Special attention must be given to his penis, because of the need to ensure that this body part is especially clean and healthy.

When a handheld sprayer is available, the boy is required to use it to rinse his penis for a minimum of thirty seconds after each soaping. The boy is to stand facing any direction and hold the sprayer stationary at the base of his penis while counting off the time out loud. One edge of the spray nozzle must remain in contact with his body at the point where the penile shaft meets the pubic bone, though he may move the other side of the nozzle to any angle during the rinsing. This process will also send water across the scrotum, so the boy should make sure that the water temperature is comfortable before rinsing.

This rule applies when showering home and away, but is optional when taking a bath. When a hand sprayer is unavailable or unsuitable, the boy will rinse in a conventional manner. Spray rinsing of the anus is covered under a separate policy.
