Communication and Obedience – Hand Signals For House Boys
The House Boy is generally allowed to communicate openly and freely, so long as he does so in a polite and respectful manner. On rare occasions, the boy is placed into Silent Mode or the Master wishes to communicate non-verbally and the boy must rely on Hand Signals for guidance.
The attached chart shows Ten Primary Hand Signals for the House Boy. It is the responsibility of every House Boy to watch for, learn, and silently obey these signals any time they are given. Any signal not immediately and silently obeyed will result in discipline for failing to follow instructions. The Master may use a snap of the fingers to indicate urgency, which serves as notice of escalated discipline if expectations are not met.
Additional Hand Signals may be added at any time, along with specific protocols and expectations. The House Boy is responsible for explaining active Hand Signals to visitors who ask about their use and protocols.
A chart or poster with these ten Hand Signals will be kept in the House Boy’s bedroom for reference and provided to any Temporary Master or Sitter upon request.
