Each full-time House Boy is evaluated prior to collaring for several characteristics. One of these is the appropriateness of body hair. The evaluation takes into account the boy’s body measurements and overall look, the color and thickness of his body and public hair, his preference for keeping or shaving pubic and body hair, and the Master’s impressions about whether house guests would prefer to see the boy hairless or with body hair, or perhaps only with hair smoothed or trimmed or in specific areas. Over fifty percent of the Master’s permanent House Boys have been required to submit to the shaving of all body hair, and any boy who applies for service should expect this possibility.

For permanent House Boys who are not permitted to keep their leg hair, shaving or smoothing is a scheduled activity that will take place at assigned days and times, regardless of who may be present and could observe. The boy is required to be completely naked during this activity, whether he is self-shaving or the grooming is being done by the Master or someone else. The use of hair removal ointments will be prohibited on boys with skin allergies or extreme sensitivities. The legs may be shaved at the same time as other body parts, or separately at the Master’s discretion. Leg shaving is never done in the boy’s bedroom.

Part-time and temporary House Boys are exempt from all shaving requirements on request. They are still subject to body hair inspections at any time and trimming or removal of any hair that poses a safety or health hazard, such as in the case of a scratch or an insect bite needing treatment.

House Boys who are being groomed are required to cooperate with the groomer in positioning their legs and other body parts so that they may be shaved or smoothed safely and completely. This may result in the explicit exposure of the boy’s anus or other parts or gentle handling of his body parts while positioning the boy for access. The use of restraints on a boy being groomed is prohibited, unless the boy continues to complain or be uncooperative after a verbal warning.
