House Boys are expected to keep their ears clean and free of wax buildup. The boy should undertake this duty during shower times or bathroom trips as needed since this duty will not be verbally announced unless an issue is observed. The boy is subject to Ear Inspection during his Daily and Weekly Inspections or anytime an issue such as wax buildup is reported to Master. Random inspection of the ears or any body part are always possible.

Protocol for an Ear Inspection calls for the Master to use two hands to move the boy’s head to a position where local lighting allows a clear view of the ear canal. House Boys who have issues with ear wax will not be punished if they report the potential issue to the Master prior to inspection.

Violation for excess ear wax requiring removal is a Level One offense. The wax from the outer ear may be removed by cotton swab or other means. The wax from the inner ear will be removed by the warm water method only.

The Report Position precedes most Ear Inspections. Use of the solo word ‘Huh’ at any time by a House Boy may result in an immediate Ear Inspection (since he is obviously having trouble hearing) and the boy is subject to punishment even if the ears are found to be wax-free, since the boy has failed to properly say, ‘Huh, Sir’.
