When the House Boy is in a public setting where nudity is not allowed, the Master will provide clothing or covering sufficient to keep keep the boy legal. When worn properly, the item or items the boy is told to wear will cover his penis, scrotum, and anus as required by California law. Master is under no obligation to provide clothing or covering that exceeds these minimums, nor does Master have to provide clothing or covering that will not embarrass the boy. Selection of clothing or covering – other than the requirement that it be legal and cover the penis, scrotum, and anus – is entirely at the Master’s discretion.

The determining factor of whether clothing sufficiently covers the required body parts is made at the time that clothing is issued. Garments provided will be able to cover the necessary body parts while standing, seated properly, or walking. It is the boy’s responsibility to ensure that his activity does not cause the clothing to become unsuitable. The boy may be required to take an overt action (like holding oversize shorts up) to keep properly covered. In the example pictured, the boy has been issued suitable clothing in the form of a striped sleeveless shirt and white shorts, which covered the required body parts at the time of issuance. During the course of the day, the boy stopped to do some stretching exercises without considering that the elevated place he put his foot would cause his penis to nearly pop out of his shorts. The boy could be punished at Level One for each time someone complains about the clothing malfunction, or at Level Two (deferred to returning home) if the Master observes the malfunction before anyone else points it out. House Boys should keep in mind that since Master assumes that suitable clothing will remain suitable, it is unlikely that Master will notice situations where the boy is exposed for just a few seconds, but the Master,s friends (and strangers) may pay closer attention to the boy and see an errant penis or testicle that neither the Master nor the boy realizes can be seen.
