The House Boy is required to keep himself clean and presentable at all times, and part of this process is showering at assigned times. When the boy is assigned to shower and a handheld sprayer is available, the boy may use it either as a fixed shower head or remove it and use it handheld to rinse himself.

Special attention must be given to the anal area, because of its physical location and the need to ensure that this area is especially clean and healthy. When a handheld sprayer is available, the boy is required to use it to rinse his anus for a minimum of thirty seconds after each soaping. The boy is to bend over facing any direction and hold the sprayer stationary at or below his knees while counting off the time out loud. He is not to move the sprayer or the direction it is pointing for any reason. Proper rinsing of the anal area may send spray across the scrotum as well, and the boy should make sure that the water temperature is comfortable.

This rule applies when showering home and away, but is optional when taking a bath. When a hand sprayer is unavailable or unsuitable, the boy will rinse in a conventional manner. Spray rinsing of the penis is covered under a separate policy.
