Laundry Day is scheduled weekly at home. The House Boy is responsible for washing and drying, and then folding or hanging all clothing, towels, and bedding. Baskets for dirty clothing and towels are placed throughout the home. and the House Boy is responsible for collecting these as well as stripping bedsheets and pillowcases for laundering.
Proper washing and drying of laundry is a scheduled activity to be completed regardless of who may be present and could observe. The House Boy is required to remain naked throughout the process, though footwear is optional. Activities and other chores for this day are arranged so that the House Boy should be able to complete all other obligations during the wash and dry cycles during the day so that he won’t have to use his recreational or free time doing chores unless he falls behind or otherwise fails to meet expectations.
When guests are present on Laundry Day, the House Boy should ask if they have anything that they would like laundered. The Master may also permit selected friends or relatives to bring over up to one load each for laundering. It Is the responsibility of the House Boy to check pockets and clothing tags on all laundry for washing instructions and forgotten items, to avoid preventable damage to equipment or textiles. Bedding must be replaced In their respective sleeping areas before Laundry Day is considered to be properly completed.
Laundry Day may be postponed or canceled at the Master’s discretion. This most commonly occurs when there is insufficient laundry for a full load or when the task of doing laundry interferes with a quiet home for social or professional guests. Special rules cover laundry that is washed or dried off property, such as at a laundromat when traveling or when the washer or dryer at home is not operable.
As with any of the House Boy’s duties or chores, a visitor may occasionally volunteer assistance in washing, drying, or folding. While the Master appreciates these offers of assistance — and the House Boy is permitted to accept — he is strictly prohibited from directly or indirectly asking for physical assistance with laundry activities, except for making beds or folding bedsheets, blankets, and bed covers.
Negligent damage to laundered items or laundry equipment is considered misbehavior and will subject the House Boy to discipline. Other minor violations of Laundry Day protocol are also punishable but may be excused with a warning at the Master’s discretion. The House Boy is not responsible for incidental damage or regular wear and tear to items or equipment.
in the example photo, a House Boy is seen folding items that have been laundered and dried. We can assume that there are no other items in the clothes dryer since the door is open and the House Boy would be Unnecessarily Wasting Energy (See below, Rule #250) if other textiles were still inside. Since the House Boy lives naked and uncovered, there is not a lot of laundry to do at times. Any time that Laundry Day is canceled, it may be replaced by other assignments like washing cars for the Master’s friends, cleaning the carpeting, etc.
