Hmmm. I think my very first advice would be to try a chastity device if you have one. I suspect you do not. If you can, you should try to hook up with a guy who has one. He can show you how to put it on, and you can play that session with it on and see how you like it. I have played with boys who find the concept of chastity hot, but do not like the cage once they have it on. It’s better to experience the play before committing to any time on such a device.
Is it harmful to your health? No. Circulation could be an issue, but that just means you need a larger device if you’re feeling constricted. Aside from that, the worst effects are generally pinching and discomfort. As for whether it hurts excessively when you get hard. Again, so long as the device isn’t too small, no it shouldn’t hurt. It would be mild discomfort.
