Screening and Assessment — Interactive Dialogue and Questionnaire

The most important aspect to screening potential House Boys for collaring is the determination of compatibility. An applicant who is poorly compatible with the Master’s home environment, lifestyle, methods of training and discipline, and environmental factors will be a poor fit and difficult to properly train for service. Poorly compatible House Boys can also be disruptive to the Master’s social and professional relationships and should be screened out no later than the required Pre-Collaring Interview and Inspection, also known as the meet-and-greet and strip-search.

The Master will engage in an interactive dialogue with each applicant during the Pre-Collaring Interview and Inspection, and also prior to physically meeting the candidate whenever possible. Prospective House Boys will be encouraged to volunteer as much information about their background, interests, and desires as they are comfortable sharing, and the Master may push these limits to draw out as many data points as possible about what makes the applicant ‘tick’, to determine compatibility and suitability for service.

Prospective House Boys will be asked intimate and sometimes embarrassing questions about their sexual orientation and habits, past or present relationships, upbringing and education, previous service and sexual experience, family and parental upbringing, current living arrangements, medical issues, body parts and functions, and ‘favorites’ such as color, musician or genre, television show or movie, sexual position or fantasy, travel destination or vanilla activity, garment or clothing, and food or beverage. Interactive dialogue at the Pre-Collaring Inspection may be a group activity with other candidates, and the applicant must be willing to participate regardless of who may be present. Interactive dialogue will continue throughout the screening process, including the actual Pre-Collaring Inspection and right up to the actual moment of collaring. Prospective House Boys who intentionally mislead, deceive, or refuse to respond openly and candidly may be disqualified from consideration.

An example Screening questionnaire is shown, containing nearly fifty commonly asked questions of prospective House Boys. This serves as a guide to applicants and a warning that approval for you to be collared and serve will not be granted before screening and evaluation for your compatibility and suitability, including evaluation of your willingness and likelihood to carry out routine duties and chores and submit to disciplinary procedures, and adapt to and comply with the various rules and protocols. Although it is not required that you do so, preference will be given to compatible applicants who volunteer to respond to the above questionnaire in writing, giving the Master detailed and candid answers through messaging or email. If you do so, please respond using full and complete sentences for clarity. Doing so also puts the Master on notice that you, as a prospective House Boy, have actually read this blog post in its entirety, which means that you are also more likely to read and comply with the actual rules and protocols after collaring.

Interactive dialogue does not preclude a prospective House Boy from asking questions, either right now or later on in the screening process. Nothing is off-limits for you to ask — seriously nothing whatsoever— though the Master may choose not to respond to some questions at his sole discretion. During the pre-Collaring Inspection and Interview, there will be time set aside for ‘Questions to the Master’, and the Master will not discriminate against anyone because they happen to ask questions that are of an intimate or personal nature. Any question that the Master can pose to a prospective House Boy is also a question that the boy can pose back to the Master since the purpose of interactive dialogue is to determine mutual compatibility and suitability for collaring and service. Your right to ask potentially personal or embarrassing questions ends at collaring, except where specifically allowed in the various rules and protocols, and any House Boy making inappropriate inquiries or questioning the Master’s personal affairs is then subject to discipline under the ‘See, Hear, Speak No Evil’ protocol.
