The House Boy is required to serve naked at home and use the bedroom and bathroom without a closed door at all times. There is an exception to the bathroom rule, which allows the boy to close the bathroom door when the Master or a guest would prefer it closed or anytime a bad odor is expected (See below, House Boy Bathroom Policy, Rule #45). This is simply a common courtesy so that guests are not forced to see or smell unpleasant things when the boy is sitting on the toilet. The Master has no interest in watching the boy going poo, and most of the guests aren’t going to be interested in this sort of activity either. Still, the boy is not permitted to lock the bathroom door, and anyone has the right to enter the bathroom at any time since the needs of guests outweigh the wishes of the House Boy.

In the example photo, the House Boy is upset because a guest has just walked in on him going poo, and the boy reacts with a frown – folding his arms in front and closing both legs to conceal his genital area. It doesn’t really matter whether the boy is embarrassed at being walked in on – or simply surprised by the interruption – he is being disrespectful to a guest and breaking the Nudity Rule. Nor does it matter whether the guest walked in without knowing that the boy was on the toilet or chose to enter intentionally for whatever reason. The Master would never embarrass a visitor by questioning their motive for helping the Master supervise the House Boy, especially during an activity that the Master doesn’t particularly wish to observe himself.

The temperamental House Boy is subject to serious discipline if this incident is reported to the Master. Covering of the genitals is a violation of the Nudity Rule and Crossing Of Arms is another (See Below, Rule #314). The Cumulative Violation Rule (See Below, Rule #100) holds that the boy may be punished for each violation individually and disciplined again for his behavior when taken as a whole. The fact that the House Boy is almost scowling at the innocent guest could bring punishment for disrespect (if the guest takes it that way) and the Master may even allow the offended guest to suggest a specific type of punishment or even help administer discipline – if the boy’s attitude is reported to the Master as being offensive to the visitor. The boy would be wise to immediately shake the bad attitude – and resume going poo without hiding his body or activity – in hopes that the visitor will let the moment pass unreported to the Master. Most likely the guest isn’t interested in watching the boy on the toilet and just wants to grab a towel or wash his hands and exit. With that said, if a guest for some reason *is* curious and chooses to watch the House Boy’s bathroom activities up close and personal, then the guest certainly has the right to do so since the right of a house guest to observe the boy outweighs the wishes of the boy to not be observed.
