The Naked House Boy is required to maintain a home exercise regimen that is tailored around his individual fitness goals, taking into account his age, weight, health, and pre-collaring fitness levels. Most boys are assigned Water Exercise (See below, Rule #264) and some boys are also given the option of ‘Lap Swimming’ as an enhancement or substitute for conventional exercises.

Lap Swimming may be assigned alone or with others in the Master’s pool, or sometimes off property during travel or off-season. The boy is expected to complete the assigned number of laps unless a physical condition or some other factor reasonably prevents completion of the exercise. During this time the boy is not permitted to freestyle swim, play, dive, jump, wrestle, horse around, play pool sports, or engage in any other activity except when waiting for the pool to become available.

The Master will schedule the House Boy’s Lap Swimming at home far enough in advance that the times can be posted in the boy’s Schedule of Duties & Chores so that guests will know in advance when the boy will be using the pool. Guests are allowed to lap swim with the boy in the Master’s pool or observe from the poolside if they wish. During times when there are two House Boys in service, they will be scheduled to participate in Lap Swimming together if possible.

Lap Swimming is not scheduled during event days like pool parties or barbeques where the House Boy is serving refreshments or attending the event as a guest unless the boy’s lap swimming is added to the event schedule. The Naked House Boy is required to take a proper outdoor shower before and after using the pool area, and he is still subject to Inspections, additional washings, or discipline if so ordered. The Master may also schedule regular or water exercises to take place at the poolside, either before, during, or after lap swimming.

Lap Swimming is a scheduled activity and the House Boy is required to remain naked, even when the Master’s pool area is being used by house guests or vanilla friends who have been given the gate code for pool, access on warm summer days. Signage in the pool area reminds others that nudity is required for the House Boy (See below, Rule #228) and everyone who has been given the gate code has been told about the rule. The boy may wear Jewelry and Accessories during all swimming activities (See Below, Rule 183). The House Boy will be permitted to wear a speedo-style suit or men's underwear of the Master’s choice when Lap Swimming is assigned off property at a pool where nudity is not allowed.
