Bathing & Grooming – Shower Exemption For Boys In Casts
The Master’s House Boy is required to follow a strict schedule for bathing and grooming and is not permitted privacy during these activities. The boy is required to shower with the bathroom door open, regardless of who may be present and could observe. House Rules generally prohibit the boy from taking a bath instead of a shower without specific permission from the Master.
When a House Boy is recovering from injury and is wearing a cast of any size on any part of his body, the boy is required to use bathtub facilities instead of taking a conventional shower. The boy must ask for supervision prior to entering the tub, and the Master may assign a volunteer (if one is available) to assist the boy with washing and rinsing properly. Care must be taken to keep the cast dry, either by leaving the covered body part out of the tub enclosure or by wrapping it in plastic, if practical.
Volunteer helpers will assist the boy in properly drying and cleaning up the bathroom and drying any wet areas. Boys with only a single small cast covering a finger or toe shall dry and clean up without assistance. When help is not available, the boy should ask the Master whether to bathe unassisted or wait until the Master or a volunteer is available.
