House Boys have no right to privacy and are required to sleep naked and uncovered. A thermostat is provided to allow the boy to adjust the temperature in his quarters to a comfortable setting. Since the boy’s bedroom has no entry door, his body and all of his activities may be observed 24 hours a day. 

When a new House Boy is collared, he will either agree to immediate compliance with this rule, or he may submit to gradual adjustment over a six-month grace period. A boy selecting the grace period will still be required to sleep naked at all times but will be permitted to use sheets and blankets for six days a week during the first month. Reliance on coverings will gradually be reduced by restricting the boy from using sheets and blankets one additional day per week after each additional month, as shown in the schedule below. At the completion of the six-month grace period, the boy will be required to sleep naked and uncovered at all times, though socks are optional for boys with cold feet. 

House Boys who take advantage of the six-month grace period are subject to Under Blanket Inspections by the Master at any time. The Master may assign this task to a volunteer. A boy who has his covering suddenly removed while sleeping will not react verbally or physically in any way, and the boy will be subject to the same protocol as the Freeze Command, including punishments. House Boys who are permitted coverings under this rule are required to keep their hands and arms outside the blankets and sheets and visible at all times. Violation following a verbal warning will be the loss of coverings for the remainder of that rest period. For health reasons, the boy will still be permitted to control the bedroom thermostat within a reasonable range.

Sunday through Friday nights with a sheet and blanket

Naked and uncovered on Saturday nights

Month Two

Sunday through Thursday nights with a sheet and blanket

Naked and uncovered on Friday and Saturday nights

Month Three

Sunday through Wednesday nights with a sheet and blanket

Naked and uncovered on Thursday through Saturday nights

Month Four

Sunday through Tuesday nights with a sheet and blanket

Naked and uncovered on Wednesday through Saturday nights

Month Five

Monday nights with a sheet and blanket

Naked and uncovered Tuesday through Saturday nights

Month Six

Sunday night with sheet and blanket

Naked and uncovered Monday through Saturday night

The House Boy may choose to sleep naked and uncovered during the grace period at any time without penalty. The grace period is designed to allow new House Boys an easier and healthier transition to sleeping naked and uncovered.
