From time to time the Naked House Boy is instructed to start up one of Master’s vehicles and wait for further instructions. Sometimes Master will be going somewhere and wants the vehicle air-conditioned (in summer) or heated (in winter). Other times Master may send the boy off on an errand or have him chauffeur Master to a destination. When this occurs, the boy is to remain undressed until instructed otherwise, since the parking area can not be seen from the public street.

It is also the House Boy’s responsibility to remain awake and alert during times when the vehicle motor is running, so a violation of this rule – whether observed by Master or reliably reported by any other person – will require alertness recalibration. The determining factor requiring Alertness Recalibration is whether the boy’s eyes were closed for more than 20 consecutive seconds.

Alertness Recalibration requires the Naked House Boy to immediately perform 50 Jumping Jacks alongside the vehicle before returning to his duties, regardless of who may be present and could observe. Master will not accept as an excuse that any other person was alert and watching the vehicle during the time that the boy was inattentive. The number of Jumping Jacks may be reduced in half during rain or cold weather, subject to the Master’s approval and the approval of the reporting person (if someone other than Master).
