‘Happy Face’ or ‘Smile’ Command
The Happy Face or Smile Command requires the Naked House Boy to continue his present activity or chore while immediately erasing any neutral or negative facial expressions, replacing them with a positive and happy appearance with an accompanying smile — or at least a passable fake smile — until such time as his present activities are completed or a subsequent command is instructed.

The Happy Face Command (also known as the Smile Command) requires the Naked House Boy to immediately erase any negative or neutral facial expression and replace it with a substantial smile. It does not matter what his actual feelings are at that moment nor the particular activity he is participating in, he must Smile and put on a Happy Face or he will be given a good reason to be looking and feeling sad. The Protocol requires that the smiling House Boy display his teeth and that any smile does not appear to be artificial or insincere.
In the example photo, a House Boy is observed with a grimace on his face while seated on the toilet, and a guest asks why he is projecting a negative expression. Since the House Boy has No Right To Privacy (See below, Rule #12), the visitor is fully within his rights to supervise the House Boy during any activity, even sitting in the toilet. The House Boy is subject to discipline if he is disrespectful to a guest, and his embarrassment at being observed going to the bathroom distracts him from paying attention to how his facial expression may appear to others. Hearing the conversation, Master walks in and instructs the House Boy to 'Put On a Happy Face’ to demonstrate to the guest that Master is in control of the House Boy and his demeanor, and the young man on the toilet forces a smile, remembering to display his teeth to avoid punishment, though the smile is marginal and barely meets the minimum standard to avoid having his bare bottom spanked for disrespectful insincerity.
The Smile Command does not require a House Boy to stop what he is doing, so the House Boy is permitted to continue any activity in progress when this command is given. In the example photo, the shy House Boy continues taking a poo but does so without appearing to be angry about being observed. The experience also serves as a reminder to everyone that Presuming Poo Privacy (See Index, Rule #309) isn’t something a House Boy has any right to do.
Smile and Happy Face commands automatically expire at the completion of the current House Boy activity unless a longer duration is announced (example: Smile Until you Shower or Smile Until Bedtime). The rarely given corollary command Do Not Smile (aka Sad Face) may also be given prohibiting a House Boy from smiling, and remains in effect until canceled or until the House Boy’s next rest period of four hours or more.
