When the Naked House Boy is summoned and it is not practical to face the Master upon reporting, the boy is required to verbally notify the Master of the boy’s presence and mode of dress (Example: “Reporting, Sir. I am naked except for socks.”). If a mirror or other reflective surface is available, the boy should attempt to position himself so that the Master can make a visual examination of as much of the boy’s body as possible when following up with instructions or questions. The same is true when the House Boy is summoned by a house guest or called to report when clothed or away from home. When the requirement to state his mode of dress might cause embarrassment by revealing his nakedness to someone who otherwise would not be aware (like when the Master is on the telephone or speaking to someone at the front door) the boy is still required to obey the protocol and state his manner of dress, and allow the Master to deal with the reactions of others.
