At home, the House Boy must always wash his scalp hair in a shower unit and never a sink or other accommodation, except that an outdoor hose must be used if so ordered as punishment or for any other reason. The boy must face the outside of the shower stall or the entry door to the room during any soaping and washing. There are no directional restrictions on rinsing or when washing his scalp outside a shower stall. This is a scheduled duty and takes place during showers, regardless of who may be present and could observe. This is also an ‘On Demand’ duty and can be ordered by the Master following any inspection or report from a guest the House Boy’s hair needs care.

The Master appreciates visitors who care enough to volunteer to help the House Boy with any of his duties and chores, including washing and grooming. requests to assist the boy will not be denied without good reason. The House Boy is responsible for cleaning up any water spillage in an indoor area prior to drying himself off. A separate rule covers showering and the washing of feet and ankles. Violation or failure to meet standards of washing hair and scalp or any other body part may result in an order to wash again, or the assignment of an assistant to supervise or wash the boy.
