The Master’s House Boy is required to serve naked at home and has no right to privacy. He must carry out his duties and chores in full view of whoever happens to be present, regardless of how embarrassing this may be or what reactions he receives from the Master’s friends and house guests. The boy has a nicely furnished bedroom – but it has no door – so he is exposed 24 hours a day, every day while at home.

The Naked House Boy also has an assigned bathroom – which does have a door – though the boy is not permitted to close that door unless somebody else requests it (or an unpleasant odor is expected). This means that nearly everything that the boy does, including washing and grooming and even urinating, takes place without any privacy unless the Master or a guest requests that the door be closed.

The House Boy is required to wash his hands after a bathroom activity that has him sitting on the toilet or touching his hands to his genitals, and to wash his hands any other time he is ordered to do so. He is also required to wash his hands before meal preparation or after any duty or chore that causes uncleanliness or could spread germs. Protocols for handwashing is the same as for most bathroom activities: the boy must remain naked and the door left open – with proper lighting to ensure that the boy’s body is clearly visible at all time to anyone within view of the bathroom entrance. Prospective House Boys should note that the boy’s assigned bathroom is just inside the hallway off the living room and is visible to nearly the entire living room and dining area.

The House Boy is subject to physical inspection of the hands and fingers following washing if it is observed by the Master or reported by a guest that the boy did not do a proper washing or drying. The boy is also subject to a random inspection of his buttocks, lower or upper back, and legs during the handwashing at the Master’s discretion. For safety and hygiene reasons, random inspection of the feet, scalp, and face, and front side (including chest, stomach, and genitals) is never done while the boy is washing his hands.
