The House Boy is required to work naked at home, and this includes the back yard and pool areas which are fenced and landscaped for privacy. The gate is kept locked at night and in the winter months and access is restricted to those the Master or his trusted friends invite. Signage reminds visitors that House Boys are required to swim naked, and anyone allowed to use the facilities should have been told that the House Boy may be naked or ‘undressed’.

When there is someone at the back door who knocks, rings, or otherwise is asking for the door to be opened or answered, the House Boy is responsible for greeting the person in a proper and friendly manner. Unless it is late at night or there is some other safety concern, the House Boy is required to open the door without concern about who may see his nudity. Failure to properly open the door where the boy can be seen from head to toe is considered impolite to the guests at the door, who should be aware that the boy’s working ‘uniform’ is complete nudity (with footwear optional).

In the example photo, the House Boy answers a knock at the back door to find a neighbor has entered the yard without permission, trying to recover a house cat that ran off and over the fence line. The neighbor then sees the House Boy watching through the small kitchen window and the neighbor decides it’s better to knock and explain what’s going on, rather than exit suspiciously. The House Boy assumes that the neighbor must have been invited by the Master – since he has entered the Master’s private backyard – and opens the back door revealing his nakedness. In this circumstance, it is the trespassing neighbor who is in the wrong, and not the House Boy, who should simply explain that he is a nudist and that isn’t right to enter the back yard without permission. The House Boy must then decide for himself whether to make friends with the neighbor and help look for the cat or tell him to leave and not trespass again.
