Vanilla

long text

www.seekdiscipline.com

Vanilla is a term that refers to what a society considers to be normal. It can be applied in various ways to refer to lifestyle, sex, behaviour, or simply attitude. Different cultures, subcultures, and individuals have different ideas about what is normal, and so vanilla has no direct meaning other than in relation to the alternative under discussion.

In the M/s subculture, vanilla commonly means relationships where the power dynamic is predominantly egalitarian or relationships where the power relationship is non-egalitarian but based on traditional ideas of marriage, consisting of separate spheres for men and women, each of whom retains certain rights. This contrasts with M/s subculture, where the slave is conceived as a person under the authority of his/her owner and devoid of all rights.
