Obedience

Obedience is the ease with which a slave's intents can be moved into alignment with their owner's (resistance is the reciprocal of obedience)
"Being obedient" does not mean that the slave has the same intent as their owner, but that when informed of the owner's intent they promptly align themselves to it. Discipline is the overall structure of rules, rewards and penalties which the owner creates to promote this obedience.
Obedience is a symptom and the primary purpose of ownership, but it is not an essential feature of it: for example, a disobedient slave is still a slave if they remain subject to their master's authority when resistant to commands.
