Assessment and Screening —
Body Measurement Chart
Every prospective House Boy will be furnished a copy of the Body Measurement Chart at or before his Pre-Collaring Interview. The Master will discuss the contents of the form with the candidate, explaining to him that every applicant must submit to the measurement of his naked body at the Pre-Collaring Inspection. The applicant will be permitted to ask questions in advance and discuss measurement protocols. Appropriate Terminology must be used since the Interview takes place in a public location where a conversation may be overheard or the Body Measurement Chart could be viewed by passers-by.
At the Pre-Collaring Inspection, the applicant will be instructed to allow measurement of his body part distances and dimensions as shown on the form. A copy of the Body Measurement Chart will be placed in the House Boy’s file after collaring and will remain available for viewing by any visitor on request. Body parts and dimensions which were not measured prior to collaring may be updated during any inspection after collaring, at the Master’s discretion. Consideration will be given to visitors who request the inclusion of missing data when time and circumstances permit. Any report or observation of incorrect data or unexpected changes due to aging or other factors after collaring may result in re-measurement, with a supplemental worksheet to be stapled to the original for future reference.
It is unusual for any applicant to have all body parts measured as listed on the form. The Master generally chooses to randomly measure about a dozen of the more than 30 listed bodily parts and areas to save time, unless there is another candidate or guest present who volunteers to assist with the taking of measurements.
Applicants will sign or initial the Body Measurement Chart in advance to indicate consent to having their measurements taken in accordance with this rule. If two or more applicants are simultaneously present or have overlapping Pre-Collaring Inspections, they may be tasked to conduct measurements on each other to save time and expedite the remaining inspection protocols. Measurement taking and documentation on the appropriate charts will still be overseen by the Master. Unless an exemption has been requested and granted prior to the Pre-Collaring Inspection, applicants have no right to privacy during the taking of measurements regardless of who may be present and could observe.
